Update 9-11:
It has been confirmed that Lawler had a heart attack and is now in stable condition.
As awful as it was, it’s pretty lucky this happened at a WWE event with all of the medical personnel so close. The immediacy of the care he got was likely helpful.
Also, I think it’s important not to blame WWE for this. Lawler wrestles on the independent circuit regularly and I believe he truly loves it and wants to wrestle. He’s not young, but from what I’ve heard he’s always been relatively healthy. For more on that, JR posted a great blog; he obviously knows quite a bit more than I do about King and the whole situation so it’s a good read.

Earlier tonight on RAW, Jerry Lawler collapsed in the middle of a match while doing commentary. Doctors were of course in the building and reportedly provided CPR. As of about 10 PM CDT, Michael Cole said that Lawler is now breathing on his own and is currently at a hospital awaiting a CT scan. Cole is not doing commentary for the rest of the show, but is at ringside to provide updates. I’ll try to keep this updated, but in the mean time keep Lawler in your thoughts. Let’s all hope for a full and speedy recovery from this scary moment.

It’s being reported that Lawler had a heart attack. And it sounded like it was serious. It may be a long time before he returns to announcing. And he shouldn’t wrestle any more. Damnit, he’s 62 years old! He was in a tag match earlier in the night. He’s obviously not in as good of shape as he thought. I do hope he recovers, and I hope he returns to the announce booth. But I hope he never wrestles again.

Not to be offensive in what happened with Lawler because it sucked but what in the hell is WWE thinking letting him wrestle in the first place? The guy is 62; not 42. I get that hindsight is 20/20 but still, throwing a guy that age out there time after time isn’t a good idea. I am praying this can get WWE to not necessarily put an age-limit on when someone should stop wrestling but take that into consideration.
I fast forwarded through the match in which Lawler collapsed because I was trying to catch up to it live as I got home a bit late. I was able to get to Cole’s announcement live and then, I ended up rewinding it as I saw most of the fans turn their heads towards the announce table during that match.
Last night, I was refreshing various sites to get updates on Lawler. It was a sad time to be a wrestling fan. My heart nearly dropped while Cole was going through the details.
